The Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 Board of Directors Election

The Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 (MCWCID) has recently announced an upcoming board of directors election. This election will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the district and its water management policies. Taking place on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., the election will determine the occupants of three out of the five board of directors seats.

Important Dates and Locations

The election process will include early voting, which will commence on Monday, April 22nd and continue until Tuesday, April 30th. Early voting will take place at the MCWCID offices located at 1622 Maverick Industrial Park Road (Radar Base) in Eagle Pass, Texas.

On the day of the election, designated polling places will be available for voting. It is essential for all eligible MCWCID members to pre-register to vote with the district office located at 1622 Maverick Industrial Park Road in Eagle Pass. The deadline for pre-registration is Thursday, April 4, 2024. Only members who have pre-registered will be allowed to cast their votes in the board election.

Incumbents and Challengers

Three of the current board of directors seats will be on the ballot, including those held by Randy Edwards, Gabriel De La Cerda, and Juan Perez Jr. All three incumbents have registered for re-election to serve another four-year term.

However, three other MCWCID members have also registered for election to the board of directors. Lalo Trevino, Trinidad Flores, and Louie Valderrama are challenging the incumbents. These candidates seek to collaborate with state, local, and federal officials to restore the district’s focus on providing water to local farmers and ranchers.

Election Process

The election will be determined by the three individual candidates who obtain the highest number of votes. These candidates will be elected to the three available board seats. The outcome of this election will have a significant impact on the direction and policies of the MCWCID.
