The South 57 Music Festival: A Weekend of Festivities in Eagle Pass, Texas

Get ready for an unforgettable weekend of music and excitement at the first-ever South 57 Music Festival, taking place from Friday, April 5 through Sunday, April 7, 2024. Hosted by the city of Eagle Pass and the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino, this three-day event will feature 17 talented music artists and bands performing on the banks of the Rio Grande River, adjacent to the casino.

Friday, April 5: Opening Night

The festival kicks off on Friday, April 5, with gates opening at 3 p.m. at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino. The evening will begin with a lineup of five artists and bands, starting at 4:30 p.m. Hometown favorite Los Garcia Brothers will inaugurate the festival, followed by recording artist Kin Faux at 6 p.m. Tejano recording artist Gary Hobbs of Eagle Pass will take the stage at 7:30 p.m., followed by musical artist Kevin Fowler at 9 p.m. The first night of music will be brought to a close by recording artist Chris Young at 10:30 p.m.

Saturday, April 6: A Day of Musical Excellence

The beat continues on Saturday, April 6, with an impressive lineup of six musical artists and bands. The day will start with Eclipse: Journey Tribute at 3 p.m., followed by Eagle Pass’s very own country and western crooner, Dustin de la Garza, at 4:30 p.m. The after party will keep the energy going at 6 p.m., followed by Braxton Keith at 7:30 p.m. Randall King will take the stage at 9 p.m., and the closing artist for the night will be Parker McCollum at 10:30 p.m.

Sunday, April 7: A Grand Finale

The South 57 Music Festival will wrap up on Sunday, April 7, with a lineup of six recording artists and bands. Starting at 3 p.m., Cody Hibbard will kick off the day, followed by Chicos de Barrio at 4:30 p.m. Shane Smith and the Saints will take the stage at 6 p.m., followed by Tejano recording artist Bobby Pulido at 7:30 p.m. The Randy Rogers Band will perform at 9 p.m., and the grand finale act of the festival will be the legendary king of norteno music, Ramon Ayala, at 10:30 p.m.

Throughout the festival, food and refreshments will be available for purchase from local and out-of-town vendors, offering a wide variety of cuisines and drinks. So come hungry and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the South 57 Music Festival.

The Total Solar Eclipse: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience

Highlighting the extended weekend festivities is the majestic total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024. Eagle Pass, Texas, has the distinction of being the first American continental city to experience the path of totality of this breathtaking event. The eclipse will commence at 12:10 p.m., with totality occurring at 1:27 p.m. for four minutes and 23 seconds, and ending at 2:51 p.m.

To witness this awe-inspiring phenomenon, the city of Eagle Pass will open the Patsy Winn Sports Complex, located at 1325 Patsy Winn Boulevard, as an official public eclipse viewing site from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free, and food and refreshment vendors will be available on site. Don’t forget to bring your solar eclipse viewing glasses, camera, and loved ones for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The Eagle Pass Independent School District is also offering a public viewing eclipse site at the Student Activity Center, located at 5021 East U.S. Highway 277. Opening at 10:30 a.m. and closing at 3:30 p.m., this site provides another opportunity to witness the eclipse in all its glory. Admission is free, and food and refreshment vendors will be available on site.
